GH-D200KW

Industrial wind turbine · 200 kW class

200 kW wind turbine

Thirty metres of rotor and half a gigawatt-hour a year from a single tower. The top of our range, and the machine we build for island grids, mine sites and factories that have decided the diesel contract has to end.

  • 200 kWRated power
  • 2.5 m/sCut-in wind
  • 30 mRotor
  • IEC IINacelle

The GH-D200KW is the largest machine we manufacture: a 30 m rotor with 707 m² of swept area, a 9.5 t nacelle, 18 t of tower steel and a 35 or 40 m hub height. Rated at 11 m/s, cut-in at 2.5 m/s, survival 59.5 m/s, IEC II. On a 6 m/s site it produces about 500 MWh a year; on a 7.5 m/s coastal site closer to 700 MWh.

Projects at this size are engineered backwards from the load. A mine that burns 400,000 litres of diesel a year, an island utility paying 0.30 USD/kWh, a factory with a 150 kW daytime baseload — each gets a different tower height, a different mix of PV and storage, and a different answer on whether one 200 kW machine or three 100 kW machines is the better purchase. We will run that comparison with your load data before quoting.

Design details

30 m rotor, 707 m² swept area

The largest swept area we build. Roughly 500 MWh a year at 6 m/s, 700 MWh at 7.5 m/s, with a 2.5 m/s cut-in that keeps it producing on marginal days.

9.5 t nacelle, 40 m hub

Three-section tubular tower, 18 t of galvanised steel, 100 t crane. Transport is by low-bed trailer: check the road before you check the price.

IEC II with three braking systems

Aerodynamic, mechanical and hydraulic braking, fixed pitch, PMSG or asynchronous generator. Grid-code documentation available for the interconnection study.

Designed to be paralleled

Run one machine against a weak grid, or three to five against a 1 MW mini-farm controller with a shared SCADA and metering point.

Where it is used

Island and weak-grid utilities

Half a GWh a year against a diesel price of 0.30 USD/kWh is roughly 150,000 USD of avoided fuel, before storage is sized.

Mines and heavy industry

Offsets the daytime baseload of a conveyor, mill or crusher; the diesel or grid contract covers the night peak.

Mini wind farms

Three to five units on one 1 MW collection circuit, sharing SCADA, metering and a single O&M contract.

Frequently asked questions

What does a 200 kW wind turbine cost?
USD 154,000–210,000 ex-works for turbine, tower and controller; USD 315,000–455,000 installed, excluding land and grid upgrades. Transport and crane can add 10–20 % in landlocked countries — get the route survey first.
One 200 kW or several smaller machines?
One machine is cheaper to install and maintain per kWh, but a single point of failure. Two 100 kW units cost 10–20 % more and keep half the output when one is serviced. Islands usually take two; mines with a 24-hour load often take the single 200 kW.
How much space does a 200 kW turbine need?
A 200 m × 200 m plot, 6–8 m crane track, and 300 m to the nearest dwelling for noise. Tip height is 55 m at a 40 m tower, so check aviation and radar constraints if you are near an airport.
